ArcGIS Education Edition

vtm

UC Berkeley students, staff, and faculty may obtain a one-year education edition of ArcGIS Desktop and Pro free of charge.

Eligibility Requirements:
Any UC Berkeley student, faculty, or staff is eligible to receive the software. You must include a valid CalNet ID in your request.

System Requirements:

ArcGIS Desktop and Pro only works on Windows Operating Systems

ESRI's recommended hardware and system requirements are available here:

ArcGIS Desktop system requirements   ArcGIS Pro system requirements

Obtaining the Software:
Use the following form to request an authorization number. The authorization number allows you to download the software and is not valid until activated online using the instructions below.

Installation Help:
Installing the software is typically an easy process, and extensive documentation is available on ESRI's website. The GIF is unable to provide software installation assistance. Please see the ArcGIS Desktop quick start guide for more detailed instructions if necessary. When referring to the documentation keep in mind: the Education Edition is a "single use" version; you do not need to install the License Manager software.

Installation Instructions:

  • Once you have received email from us with your authorizaton number visit ArcGIS Desktop Student Trial
  • Log in using your existing public ESRI account, or sign-up for a new public ESRI account, if necessary. The campus Enterprise accounts will not work for this.
  • Enter the authorization code and click Activate ArcGIS.
  • Choose which version of ArcGIS Desktop/Pro to download.
  • Download and install ArcGIS Student Trial software. If installing ArcGIS Pro it is licensed through the campus' ArcGIS Online Enterprise accounts and it needs to be activated for your account.
  • Follow the directions on the website. ArcGIS Pro installers come before ArcGIS Desktop in the list.
  • Determine the location for the ArcGIS software you wish to install and click the Download button. You can also download the Tutorial Data, if desired.
  • Run the main installer for Pro or Desktop. This will unpack the setup program and it should start automatically. If it doesn't the Setup.exe can be found in your Documents folder in a sub-folder named for the version of ArcGIS you downloaded. Follow prompts to install files. In the ArcGIS Desktop installer, we recommend doing a "Complete" install.
  • If installing ArcGIS Desktop, after the files are installed, the Authorization Wizard will open and prompt you to choose a product to authorize; select “ArcGIS Desktop Advanced (Single Use)” and click continue.
  • If installing ArcGIS Desktop, the Authorization Wizard will prompt you for an authorization code; enter your activated code. Follow the prompts and the software will authorize and be ready for use. Note: leave the default option for the software extensions selected; they will be authorized automatically.
  • If installing ArcGIS Pro, wait for the files to install and then run ArcGIS Pro. You will be presented with a login screen to ArcGIS Online. Click the 'ENTERPRISE LOGIN' button and then enter 'cal' in the box for ArcGIS Organization and click continue. Then sign in using 'UCBERKELEY CALNET'. You will be redirected to the CALNET login screen. Once logged in ArcGIS Pro should be licensed if you received a confirmation that you have been activated.
