Directions and Travel Information

The GIF is located in 111 Mulford Hall, which is on the west side of campus, near the West Gate Entrance and the intersection of University Ave. & Oxford Ave. Detailed directions are below.

BART:

  • UC Berkeley is 1 block from the Downtown Berkeley Station.
  • From the station, walk east on Addison or Center, until you get to Oxford Street. When you enter the West Circle entrance of the campus, Mulford Hall will be to the left of the West Gate Kiosk. Ask the kiosk attendant if you need help.
  • BART schedules and maps are at www.bart.gov.

Bus:

  • AC Transit bus service provides transportation for commuters to and from San Francisco and throughout Alameda and Western Contra Costa County.
  • There are several AC bus lines that come near the UC Berkeley campus area such as lines: #65; #52; #51; #43; #40; #15; #9; F and U.
  • For additional lines and information, visit www.actransit.org.

Bike:

  • The City of Berkeley has a network of 50 bicycle-friendly roadways or bikeways, called the Bicycle Network.
  • Bike lock areas are located at both the east side of Mulford Hall.

Car:

    From the Northbound Highway 101 (San Francisco/Daly City):
    • Follow 101 North and then switch to 80 East, San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge
    • After the Bay Bridge, exit to I-80 East (Berkeley/Sacramento)
    • Exit on University Avenue
    • Continue East on University Avenue for approximately 1.5 miles to Oxford Street
    • Get more directions: Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, or Mapquest.

    From Highway 24:

    • From Highway 24 exit Telegraph Ave.
    • Continue on Telegraph until it dead ends at the campus on Bancroft Way.
    • Make a Left on Bancroft Way.
    • Right on Oxford Street.
    • Get more directions: Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, or Mapquest.

    From Westbound Highway 13:

    • Highway 13 becomes Tunnel Road
    • Continue on Tunnel Road. Tunnel Road becomes Ashby Avenue near the Claremont Hotel
    • Turn right at College Avenue
    • Continue on College Ave until you reach Bancroft Way.
    • Make a left on Bancroft Way.
    • Right on Oxford Street.

    From I-80 East or West:
    • Exit University Avenue
    • Continue east on University Avenue for approximately 1.5 miles to Oxford Street.
    • Get more directions: Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, or Mapquest.
    From Northbound I-880:
    • Follow I-880 north, and take the I-80 East ramp toward Sacramento.
    • Continue on I-80 East and take the University Avenue exit.
    • Continue east on University Avenue for approximately 1.5 miles to Oxford Street.
    • Get more directions: Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, or Mapquest.

Parking on/near  Campus:

  • Metered parking is available off campus on Oxford Street (25 cents/20 minutes), and a Parking structure on Addison St.
  • If you have arranged for a parking permit, you can pick it up at the parking kiosk on the west side of campus, off Oxford St.
  • DO NOT park on campus in a designed permit-only spot unless you have a parking permit for that area; parking is enforced 24-hours-a-day/7-days-a-week on UCB campus.

  • Use UC Berkeley's Interactive Map of Campus to find other buildings.

Air:

  • Oakland International Airport (OAK)
    • The Oakland International Airport is approximately 15 miles from UC Berkeley.
    • When using BART, at the airport take the AirBart Shuttle to the Oakland Coliseum BART station (Fare: $2.00). Board a Richmond bound BART train and get off at the Downtown Berkeley Station. From the station, walk east on Addison or Center, until you get to Oxford Street. When you enter the West Circle entrance of the campus, Mulford Hall will be to the left of the West Gate Kiosk. Ask the kiosk attendant if you need help.
    • When driving, take I-880 North, and follow the directions for From Northbound I-880 above.
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
    • The San Francisco Airport is approximately 25 miles from UC Berkeley.
    • When using BART, at the airport take the Dublin/Pleasanton train and transfer at the Balboa Park Station. Take the Pittsburgh/Bay Point train and transfer at the 12th street/Oakland station. Take the Richmond train to the Downtown Berkeley station.
    • When driving, at the airport take Hwy 101 North, and follow the directions for From Northbound Highway 101 above.
  • Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC)
    • San Jose International Airport is approximately 45 miles from UC Berkeley.
    • Public transportation options can be found at www.511.org.
    • When driving, at the airport take I-880 North (or Hwy 101 south to I-800 north), and follow the directions for From Northbound I-880 above.
